Flo is expecting twins this summer. I am the sort of person who tries to avoid talking about such a thing for fear of jinxing it, but she has told everyone, she is showing, and to my absolute superstitious horror, there was a baby shower today, way too early (in my opinion). My purchased gift for the day was a home blood pressure cuff. Her blood pressure is fine, actually, but she knows that I worry about the possibility of pre-eclampsia, so she accepted the present with good grace. They also received many other useful and occasionally silly gifts. People came from near and far (to Greenfield, where they live). One of her college friends came from California. My sister, who lives in Arizona, arranged for a planned stay in NC to coincide in such a way that she could finish off her trip by being here. I could try to act like a boastful grandparent already, in a jokey way. According to the ultrasound tech, the fetuses were exactly the same size when viewed on Tuesday, which she said was almost unheard of, although she doesn't expect that to be true for long. Good for them, having egalitarian ways at this point of their lives, doing a good job of sharing the uterine resources.
